Double-decker flyover ready but Bengalureans are frustrated. Why?

Commuters facing daily traffic woes at the Silk Board junction are demanding that BMRCL open the lower deck of the rail-cum-road double-decker flyover and the three ramps at Silk Board without further delay.

Ready infrastructure

The lower deck of the flyover has been ready for 1.5 years, and the construction of the ramps at Silk Board junction was completed recently. Commuters argue that there is no reason to delay the opening if the road infrastructure is ready.

Approval awaited

BMRCL is awaiting approval from the central and state governments to set a formal opening date for the flyover and ramps. Both governments are partners in BMRCL.

Traffic relief

The opening of the road infrastructure is expected to ease congestion significantly at the busy Silk Board junction, especially for motorists traveling from Ragigudda and BTM Layout to HSR Layout and Hosur Road.

Past delays

Initially planned for the end of 2023, the deadline for opening the flyover has been revised multiple times, most recently to May 2024 and then to June 2024.

Ramp completion

The construction of three ramps at Silk Board junction, which will allow motorists to bypass the signal and reach their destinations more efficiently, has been completed.

Costly project
