PANAJI: As of Monday, two more rain gauge stations have surpassed the 4000 mm mark in seasonal total rainfall, with measurements recorded at 4044.7 mm in Ela, Old Goa, and 4059.2 mm in Ponda.
The rise in rainfall totals has prevailed even as the Southwest Monsoon continues to bring moderate precipitation across the state in the last 20 days of this season.

This year’s intense monsoon season had earlier seen other stations exceed the 4000 mm threshold, with Pernem recording 4168.3 mm, followed closely by Sanquelim at 4543.2 mm and Quepem at 4511.6 mm. Meanwhile, Canacona is approaching the milestone with a recorded total of 3927.1 mm as of September 10.
Valpoi remains at the forefront with the highest seasonal total, having accumulated 5390.3 mm of rainfall so far. Sanguem follows with a substantial 5150.8 mm of rainfall. The lowest seasonal total rainfall has been recorded at Dabolim with 3222.7 mm of rainfall.
Since the onset of the monsoon on June 1, Goa has recorded a cumulative rainfall total of 163 inches, equivalent to 4141.5 mm.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for September 11, forecasting heavy rainfall accompanied by winds gusting up to 30-40 kmph at isolated locations across the state.
