GURGAON: Two youngsters died and three of their friends suffered injuries when the car they were travelling in flipped after crashing into a divider at Sector-40 on Sunday morning. The victims were returning to their homes after meeting a friend who was about to leave for the UK for further studies.
The deceased were Ishan Narain, 22, from South City-1, and Bhavya Mathur, 21, from Sector-14.The injured are Himanshi Aneja, Vanni Raswant, and Abha Mehra from Gurgaon.
They went to meet a common friend, on Saturday night at his house in the city, and the
accident occurred while they were returning home.
"Our friend, was going to the UK soon. So, five of us, Ishan, Abha, Vanni, Bhavya, and me, went to his house in Sectfor 70A in Ishan's car to meet him," Himanshi said in her police complaint.
The accident occurred at the Sector 31/40 traffic signal when Ishan was driving the Honda City. "I was sitting next to Ishan, and three of our friends were sitting in the back seat. Just before the traffic signal, a white car suddenly came in front of our car, and Ishan turned the vehicle left into the service lane to avoid a collision. The car went out of balance due to the sudden change of direction, hit the service lane divider, and flipped to a side in the service lane after crashing into a tree," Himanshi said.
According to Sector-40 PS SI Rohtash Singh, the incident happened at around 5.50 am, and the passersby had shifted the victims to the nearby Fortis hospital for treatment. "The accident occurred at the Sector-40 traffic signal. The car was badly damaged in the accident. Two of the victims, Ishan Narain and Bhavya Mathur, were declared dead at the hospital. Some of the victims are undergraduate students, and some have finished their graduation recently," SI Rohtash said.
Based on the complaint of Himanshi, Sector-40 police registered a case under sections 106 (causing death due to negligence) and 281 (rash driving on a public way) of the BNS.
The bodies were shifted to the morgue for autopsy, and according to the SI, the injured are currently undergoing treatment, and their condition is out of danger. "Ishan suffered multiple injuries on his chest, and Bhavya suffered a head injury. Both would have died within a few minutes after the crash," said a forensic medicine expert.
