​Amarnath Yatra 2023: Dos and don'ts for a happy & safe journey

Flagging off first batch

Jammu and Kashmir lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch of pilgrims for the annual Amarnath Yatra from the Bhagwati Nagar camp on Friday.

​62-day-long pilgrimage​

The 62-day-long pilgrimage will commence from Kashmir on Saturday on the twin tracks of the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the 14-km shorter but steep Baltal route in Ganderbal district.

RFID Card a must​

Every yatri must collect his/her RFID Card from designated locations in J&K before embarking on the Yatra. It is mandatory for all yatris to wear the RFID cards issued by SASB at all times during the Yatra. No yatri shall be allowed to enter the Yatra area without RFID card.

Wear comfortable clothes

Yatris should wear comfortable clothes during the Yatra. Yatris are advised to wear trekking shoes.

Walk slowly

Yatris are advised to walk slowly while ascending and take time to acclimatize themselves.

​Drink adequate water​

Yatris should drink adequate quantity of water lo keep themselves hydrated.

Contact medical facility

In case a yatri is experiencing shortness of breath/discomfort, he/ she must contact the nearest medical facility, and try to descend to lower altitude if possible.

Take frequent breaks

Yatris must avoid exerting themselves beyond their capacities and take frequent breaks and rests en-route.

Yatris must avoid polluting the environment by littering waste material along the trekking route and surroundings.

Avoid caffeinated drinks and smoking

Yatris are advised not to commence journey empty stomach. Yatris must avoid drinking alcohol, caffeinated drinks and smoking.

Avoid shortcuts

Yatris should not attempt to take any short cuts en-route and watch out for “danger zone" signages where they must move cautiously.
