KOZHIKODE:J S Sidharthan, the veterinary science student who died by suicide in Kerala’s Wayanad after being publicly ragged on campus, had been assaulted continuously for 29 hours before he took his life, police said in a report submitted to a subdivisional court.
Seniors and classmates targeted the 21-year-old student of College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at Pookode from 9am on Feb 16 to 2pm the next day, including hitting him with a belt, says the report by Vythiri sub-inspector Prashobh P V.

The court ordered additional penal charges to be slapped on the suspects.
‘Student was under stress after ragging
A copy was submitted to CBI team probing the case. The report quotes findings of the college’s anti-ragging squad.
It also states that Sidharthan was under extreme mental stress after the ragging ordeal: “He felt that there was no option left for him other than suicide.”
CBI probe team will meet his father on Tuesday to record statement.
