Voting for the 20 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state will take place on April 26, the
Election Commission of India announced on Saturday. The parliamentary polls will be held in seven phases and the state will go to the polls in the second phase. The last date for filing nominations will be April 4. Scrutiny will take place on April 5 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is April 8.
With 41 days left until the polls, all three major parties are exuding confidence.
While the Congress-led UDF and CPM-led LDF have announced candidates for all 20 seats, the BJP-led NDA is yet to confirm candidates for four seats (Wayanad, Alathur, Ernakulam, and Kollam). In the 2019 general polls, UDF won 19 seats, LDF bagged just one and NDA failed to open its account.
UDF will win all 20 seats as this election would be a verdict against Central and state govts, said opposition leader V D Satheesan. CPM state secretary M V Govindan emphasised that voters are aware of the challenges faced by state govt due to financial restrictions imposed by the Centre. BJP state president K Surendran said Keralites will reject both LDF and UDF, expressing confidence in NDA's ability to win crucial seats due to development activities under Modi govt.
