PM Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the revamp of Gorakhpur railway station in Uttar Pradesh, on Friday.

The project will involve a major makeover with world-class passenger amenities and an aesthetically designed station building.

According to officials, the railway station will be developed to handle the passenger movement which is likely to grow from the current daily footfall of 92,750 passengers to 1.67 lakh in the next 50 years.

The main station building will be spread across 17,900 sqm area, which will be double the size of the current area. The station will have a waiting area of 6,300 sqmt with 3,500 seating capacity for passengers.

The station currently handles around 9,000 passengers at peak hours, but after revamp it will be able to handle nearly 17,000.

44 lifts and 21 escalators have been planned fot the to-be redeveloped station.

A skywalk has also been planned at the station to connect the metro station and bus station which will reduce the transit time from half-an-hour to 15 minutes.

According to project details, the parking area would accommodate 900 cars which will be double the number of cars parked now.
