MUMBAI: A 12-year-old boy was run over by a truck in Borivli East on Friday morning. Vicky Kanojia, the victim, was walking back home from school, accompanied by his sister. The truck driver tried to flee but was caught by passersby. Kasturba Marg police have lodged a case of negligence under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Vicky and his family live not very far from the crash location.
His father is engaged in air-conditioner maintenance. The crash occurred around 12.30 pm. Vicky and his sister were returning from Seth Gopalji Hemraj school where they study and were dressed in school uniforms. They had reached Saidham building, near Carter Road no. 3, when the driver of a mini tempo, that was parked on the street, started the vehicle.
To avoid the mini tempo, Vicky stepped onto the road and was hit by a truck. The truck did not halt immediately and Vicky was crushed under the rear tyre. Police said the road is around 12 to 15 feet wide and in a busy neighbourhood. Passersby quickly gathered at the crash location. The truck driver tried to flee but was caught by passersby. Someone called up the police control room and a police team reached the location shortly afterwards. The police then informed the boy's family.
Vicky was rushed to the civic-run Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital in Kandivli where he was pronounced dead. His sister was fortunately unhurt. The truck driver, Vaijnath Upalwar, was arrested and the truck was seized.

Police said the road is around 12-15 ft wide and in a busy neighbourhood and passersby, acting quickly, caught the truck driver and called up the police control room.
