Badlapur encounter: Shiv Sena leader announces Rs 51,000 reward for cop who gunned down Akshay Shinde

Mahesh Gaikwad of Shiv Sena announced a Rs 51,000 reward for police officer Nilesh More, who shot Akshay Shinde during an encounter related to a Badlapur sexual abuse case. Opposition parties are questioning the legitimacy of the encounter, but many locals have expressed support and celebrated the police action.

KALYAN: A Shiv Sena leader on Tuesday announced a cash reward of Rs 51,000 for the police officer who shot Akshay Shinde, the man arrested in connection with the Badlapur school sexual assault case.
Sena's Kalyan East city president, Mahesh Gaikwad, congratulated assistant police inspector Nilesh More, who opened fire on Akshay in self defence after the accused allegedly opened fire at cops near Mumbra bypass in Thane on Monday evening.

As per the police, Akshay first snatched the gun of a policeman while being taken on a transit remand from Taloja jail by the Thane crime branch for investigation and opened fire at the cops.
Opposition parties have questioned the police and the state govt in connection with the encounter, terming it as fake.
However many people across the state are happy with the action taken by the Maharashtra Police.
In Badlapur especially, people were happy about this encounter, and they celebrated at many places and justified the police action.
In the neighbouring city of Kalyan too, Shiv Sena workers celebrated today over the encounter of the accused.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena spokesperson Kiran Sonawane has slammed the opposition for raising questions on the police encounter, saying, "If Akshay Shinde is loved by the opposition party, they should mourn his death, hold a tribute meeting, we are with the police of Maharashtra."
