KALYAN: A woman first suffocated her two-year-old daughter to death with a pillow and later committed suicide at a township in Dombivli. Police said the reason for the incident is not yet known. Police said the woman's mother, who is handicapped, was inside the bedroom while her husband was outside when the incident happened.
The incident took place at Runwal Township on Dombivli-Kalyan Shil Road on Sunday night.
The deceased have been identified as Pooja Sakpal and her daughter Samriddhi Sakpal.
Rahul Sakpal lived with his wife Pooja and their two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Samriddhi. They got married four years ago. Police sources said that on Sunday, when Rahul came home around 8pm, he was shocked to find his daughter lying dead and wife hanging in hall room. His mother was inside the bedroom.
He immediately informed the local Manpada police, who rushed to the spot.
As per preliminary probe, police suspect Pooja first suffocated to death Samriddhi using a pillow and later hung herself.
Vijay Kadbane, senior police inspector of Manpada police station, said, "The reason behind the suicide and killing is yet to be known as the family claimed there was no dispute in the family."
Pooja was a housewife, while her husband works in an IT company based in Navi Mumbai. A case has been registered, and police are conducting further investigations.
