Congress upbeat after exit polls give it edge in Rajasthan

Exit polls indicate BJP's victory in Rajasthan, with the party predicted to win over 100 seats, while Congress is expected to face defeat with around 85 seats. This outcome reflects the trend of the ruling party being voted out every five years. The BJP's strategy of not projecting a CM face may have backfired, as Chief Minister Gehlot led the Congress campaign effectively. Additionally, the BJP's attempts at religious polarization did not work, and the Congress' positive campaign with 'guarantees' resonated with women voters.

JAIPUR: The Congress camp is upbeat after some exit polls gave the party an edge over the BJP in the state. The action now shifted from the party office at Indira Bhawan to the war room at Hospital Road. Behind the scenes, leaders are busy assessing the emerging situation and reaching out to party candidates and other leaders.

Party sources said since candidates' presence in their constituency is required during the counting of votes, they will be called to Jaipur only after the results are announced.
“As of now, there is no plan as such of any isolation of MLAs or shifting them to another state. We will decide after the results are announced. If the party gets a clear majority there is no need for shifting MLAs. The party would act according to the emerging situation,” said a party leader.
The morale of the Congress leaders was a little low as the buzz was that the BJP was all set to replace the Congress. All pre-poll surveys and satta market gave Congress in Rajasthan not more than 70 seats.
The exit poll giving a close fight and chances of victory enthused the party here. The Congress leaders believe that the BJP leaders' attempts at religious polarization did not work and the party's positive campaign with the ‘guarantees’ prevailed particularly with the women voters. It gives hope to the party that it will cross or come very near to the halfway mark.
Similarly, the BJPs strategy of not projecting any leader for the CM face might have also backfired for the saffron party.

On the one hand, a ‘performer’ chief minister Gehlot led from the front for the Congress while on the other there was no state leader projected to take on Gehlot from BJP. Former chief minister Vasundhara Raje's low-profile campaign and the speculation that she is not in contention for the CM may have upset the women voters, believes some Congress leaders.
