As the artists from the Bengali entertainment industry came out on the streets to show their solidarity with the doctors’ protest over the RG Kar rape-murder incident, popular Tollywood actress Rituparna Sengupta too was part of the clan who joined in the protests along with her colleagues. The ‘Dahan’ famed actress turned up at one of the demonstration sites in Shyambazar, Kolkata on the night of September 4.
However, Rituparna had a bitter experience when she showed up at the protest site to show her solidarity. She faced ‘Go Back’ slogans as soon as she wanted to join the mass gathering. Not just that, her car was allegedly banged repeatedly till she had to drive out of the protest site.
Tollywood celebrities like Sudipta Chakraborty,
Kamaleshwar Mukherjee,
Ananya Chatterjee came out on social media, criticising the mob for mistreating Rituparna.
Sudipta Chakraborty wrote on Facebook expressing her frustration, “You might not like her opinion. You might not like the way she showed her solidarity. Raising the ‘Go Back’ slogan too is acceptable. She accepted your verdict and left the area. But is it right to bang on her car? I condemn it!”
Ananya Chatterjee condemned the incident and posted, “I strongly condemn this type of behaviour. I’m requesting the people to carefully choose their battles. Many will try to shift our focus from the goal. Do not let them succeed, please.”
Kamaleshwar Mukherjee too spoke against and wrote, “I am condemning this inhuman treatment of Rituparna Sengupta. Everyone can join the movement. No one can stop anyone.”
Rituparna was trolled earlier for her ‘staged’ solidarity with the doctors’ protest over the RG Kar rape-murder incident when she shared a video of herself blowing a conch. Despite showing solidarity online, the actress was mostly absent from being physically present at the rallies. However, Rituparna stepped out to join the protest demonstration on September 4 night and received ‘Go Back’ slogans from the masses. Rituparna revealed that she wanted to stand by the family of the victim to reassure them and hence showed up at the demonstration. However, the actress mentioned that this experience would not stop her from showing her solidarity and seeking justice for the victim and the family.
