16 days ago, on August 9, the semi-nude body of the 31-year-old woman post-graduate trainee doctor, who was raped and murdered inside a seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, was found. Following the incident, as Bengal witnessed an uproar seeking the truth behind the heinous crime and demanding justice for the victim’s family – a nationwide outrage gained momentum.
From demonstrating dissent to rallying the streets – the common citizens of Bengal left no stone unturned in their pursuit to demand justice and safety for women. Doctors across the country started a movement demanding women’s safety at the workplace and the mass joined in. Not just doctors, people from different professions have come forward and shown solidarity with the doctors. Popular faces from the Bengali entertainment industry too have taken to the streets to seek justice for the victim and her family. Subhashree Ganguly, who is one of the most well-known actresses of Tollywood, came out on the street demanding justice and safety for women. The actress was seen attending a protest march ‘Reclaim the Night’ on August 14, at midnight. Recently, Subhashree was seen speaking about keeping up with the protests until justice is served.
Subhashree recently appeared at an event for her latest release ‘Babli’, and spelt the slogan ‘We Want Justice’ from the stage. The actress spoke how important it was to keep up with the resistance and protest until justice was delivered. She kept her talk about her film to a bare minimum, instead she urged the fans to stay resilient in their pursuit to seek justice.
Subhashree’s latest film ‘Babli’ released on August 15. The film, directed by her husband and popular Tollywood director Raj Chakraborty, also starred Abir Chatterjee and Sauraseni Maitra. Earlier, in the wake of the RG Kar incident, team ‘Babli’ suspended all the promotional activities and special screenings of the film. Subhashree and Abir shared a message for their fans relaying the same information and urged everyone to keep hoping for justice to be delivered.
