The common people, including women and children, took to the streets demanding speedy justice for the RG Kar rape-murder victim and her family. The masses across the state gathered in several pockets and showed their solidarity with the cause. The celebrities from the Bengali entertainment industry stepped out to join the common people as citizens of the state. However, Tollywood actress Rituparna Sengupta had a bitter experience when she showed up at one of the demonstrations on September 4.
Rituparna Sengupta faced backlash when the ‘Dahan’ famed actress turned up at one of the demonstration sites in Shyambazar, Kolkata. The actress was trolled earlier for her ‘staged’ solidarity with the doctors’ protest over the RG Kar rape-murder incident when she shared a video of herself blowing a conch. Despite showing solidarity online, the actress was mostly absent from being physically present at the rallies. Rituparna stepped out to join the protest demonstration on September 4 night and received ‘Go Back’ slogans from the masses. After the backlash, the actress somehow got into her car but the chaos surrounding her was far from dying down. Soon, her car was forced to leave the area. Rituparna revealed that she became the target of mass outrage on the night of September 4. Although the actress mentioned that she did not mind that, she added that she understood the anger of the common people. However, Rituparna also maintained that she believed some people probably joined the protest out of whim and not out of awareness of the cause they were fighting for – ensuring women's safety.
Rituparna revealed that she wanted to stand by the family of the victim to reassure them. However, she had to come back with a damaged car. But the actress mentioned that this experience would not stop her from showing her solidarity and seeking justice for the victim and the family.
