The three-day
Bihar Mahotsav, which aims to promote the art and culture of Bihar, began in Ahmedaba. The cultural extravaganza, organized by the Bihar government, will showcase Bihari food and culture, and feature a host of programs, till March 1.
The Bihar Mahotsav was inaugurated by Bihar's Arts, Culture, and Youth Minister Pramod Kumar in the presence of Gujarat’s Sports, Youth, and Cultural Activities Minister
Ishwarsinh Patel at
Tagore Hall.
“Both Bihar and Gujarat have a rich cultural heritage. There are also a large number of people from Bihar who are living in Ahmedabad and other parts of the state. The objective of hosting the Bihar Mahotsav is to connect with Biharis living here and to showcase the state’s rich culture and heritage before people of Gujarat. We are also looking to amalgamate the art and culture of both states through this festival with performances from Bihar as well as Gujarat,” Shri Pramod Kumar said on the occasion.
Shri Ravi Parmar, Principal Secretary, Arts, Culture and Youth Department, Government of Bihar, noted that while Gujarat is the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, Bihar was Gandhi’s
karmabhoomi.
“Bihar and Gujarat have had strong ties from many centuries. The Bihar Festival is aimed at further strengthening relations between the two states through cultural exchange,” he said.
The Mahotsav features stalls selling
handicrafts and other traditional items from Bihar. There are also stalls offering authentic dishes from the eastern state. A series of cultural programs are another highlight of the three-day festival.
