Once extended connectors to MTHL are ready in about a couple of years, road travel between Mumbai and Pune will be cut by 2 hours.

Over 6 lakh cubic metres of concrete has been used in MTHL's construction, a quantity which is enough to pave a thin, narrow road between the earth and the moon.

Also, 90,000 tons of rebar has been used, enough for erecting 12 Eiffel Towers. Not to forget, three Howrah Bridges can be built with the 90,000 tons of structural steel used.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, or MMRDA, has implemented the project.

MTHL will have three interchanges, the most complex of which has been built at Sewri, with eight ramps

The project design had to take into account that the creek is an eco-sensitive zone frequented by flamingos and several other migratory birds.
