Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched 'PM Vishwakarma scheme' with the aim to benefit 30 lakh families of traditional artisans and craftsmen.

PM Modi announced the scheme at inauguration of the Rs 5,400 crore first phase of the India International Convention Centre (IICC), named Yashobhoomi in Dwarka.

The Yashobhoomi Centre spans across an area of more than 70,000 square metres and includes convention rooms and a main auditorium. The centre can accommodate up to 10,000 delegates.

The Yashobhoomi centre will aim to showcase the talent of skilled labourers to the whole world and aid in making India's local products global.

The Vishwakarma scheme will be funded by the Union government with an outlay of Rs 13k crore. The artists will be provided recognition through PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card.

PM Modi announced that artisans will receive comprehensive training and throughout this training period, they will be granted a daily stipend of Rs 500.

Government will provide loans upto Rs 3 lakh on low interest rates and without any (bank) guarantee under the PM Vishwakarma scheme. Government will provide Rs 1 lakh loan in the beginning.

PM also unveiled 18 customised stamp sheets covering the 18 traditional trades whose workers are covered under the scheme along with a toolkit e-booklet.
