The Harrier will only be available with a diesel engine at launch, hence the comparison is done with same versions of the rivals.
The Harrier and the Compass diesel run on the same engine and transmission. However, the Harrier is tuned lower at 140PS/350Nm while the Jeep returns 173PS of power and a peak torque of 350Nm.
The Hyundai Creta has the smallest engine, hence has the lowest power figures. Mahindra XUV500 with the largest oil-burner has the highest torque figure. All three SUV's in this comparison are mated to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard.
It is to be noted that the Jeep Compass gets a 1.4-litre petrol motor which is available with a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This particular combination has a starting price of Rs 15.39 lakh, ex-showroom.
On the other hand, the Creta is available with a 1.4-litre diesel-manual, (starting at Rs 9.9 lakh, ex-showroom), a 1.6-litre diesel-automatic (starting at Rs 13.2 lakh, ex, showroom) as well as a 1.6-litre petrol engine which can be had with either a manual or a automatic gearbox.
