In order to create a platform for its students to showcase their talent, a city-based dance academy held its annual show, Onukaran 2022, recently at a south Kolkata auditorium where students of the academy got a chance to perform unique dance compositions. All the dance recitals were choreographed by danseuse Prerna Gangopadhyay.
Under the academy, founded and managed by Prerna Gangopadhyay and students of all ages from different cities are trained classical form of Bharatanatyam.
The aim of this academy is to promote and exhibit the richness of Indian culture and heritage through performances of various Indian dance forms, especially the classical dance styles of India .
The evening began with the performance Nritya Malika based on a beautiful garland of colourful Bharatanatyam followed by Swadhinota Tomake Niye, a homage to our soulful mother tongue, Bangla.
The highlight of the program was the Bhakti performance by Prerna herself. The presentation was based on the divine cosmic union of jeevatma and paramatma.
Talking about the dance recital, Prerna said, “Bhakti comes from the term bhajan, which means to be attached to the omnipotent. According to Bhagavad Gita, Bhakti is one of the possible paths of spirituality which eventually leads to moksha. Bhakti entails a relationship between the devotee and deity, jeevatma and paramatma."
