Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar: Who Won The Greatest Battle In WWE History?
One of the most demanded rivalries of the early 2000s in WWE, miraculously remained relevant and electric even in the mid 2010’s. Today, we are looking back at the swashbuckling rivalry between Goldberg and Brock Lesnar. It was a feud between an immovable object versus an indestructible force. Goldberg was a household name among wrestling fans as he enjoyed a 173-0 record in his first few years in WCW. Even when he arrived at WWE, he was a hot property and had won two WWE World Championships, before colliding with Brock Lesnar. On the other hand, Brock was known as the “Next Big Thing” in WWE, after debuting in 2002. He was a sure shot superstar for the future. The rivalry history between these two superstars is nothing short of electrifying, even though their first meeting was a dud.
A throwback to all the three matches played between Goldberg and Brock Lesnar

Wrestlemania 2004

The first time these two heavyweight collided was back in 2004. Even though this contest was enough to create an uproar among the fans, the backstory of the match was even more interesting. After Stone Cold was made the “Special Guest Referee” of the match, it was revealed that Goldberg’s contract with the WWE will expire after Wrestlemania and he did not have any plans to renew it. To make matters worse, even Brock Lesnar had decided to leave the company after this particular match. The moment fans got to know about this fact, they turned against both the superstars, as was evident throughout their match. Goldberg defeated Lesnar in the match within 13 minutes, while the fans were constantly booing them as both were leaving WWE for a long period of time.

Survivor series 2016

After having a lacklustre match firstly, both superstars clashed again in 2016. Brock Lesnar was back in WWE and was wreaking havoc like never before, with a new identity-"Beast Incarnate". Goldberg also rejoined the WWE, after 12 years of fans constantly requesting him to do so. To everyone’s massive surprise, Goldberg defeated Brock Lesnar within 3 minutes, with two “Spears” and a “Jackhammer”. This was an upset of gargantuan proportions, as no one had expected the “Beast Incarnate” to lose the match so early, even if it was against his arch nemesis, Goldberg. The score line between the two was 2-0 now, and Brock Lesnar desperately wanted to change it.

Wrestlemania 33

After Goldberg won the first two matches, the third match between these two legends was for the WWE Universal Championship, at the grandest stage of them all. At the start of the match, Lesnar hit Goldberg with three continuous “German Suplexes”, before Goldberg retaliated with two Spears. At the ringside, Goldberg again hit Lesnar with a Spear through the barricade. But Lesnar was a man with a mission in his mind, as he hit a plethora of Suplexes on Goldberg again, to finally seal the deal with a brutal “F5”. Brock Lesnar defeated Goldberg to win the Universal Championship, signalling the start of his terrorising reign as the Champion and the end of this great rivalry.

Despite Goldberg's repeated apologies, Hart continues to express his grievances. Goldberg, appearing on the Chris Van Vliet podcast, stated he no longer feels the need to apologize, attributing the mishap to inexperience.
