Joe Biden is the 46th and current president of the United States. In a presidential election, which was conducted in the backdrop of global pandemic Covid-19, Biden defeated Donald Trump to emerge victorious. Biden received 306 electoral votes, while Trump got 232. What was interesting about this election was that both Biden and Trump got more votes than Barack Obama.


At 78, Biden holds the distinction of being elected as the oldest US President. He also holds the record of getting over 81 million votes, the most for any candidate in US presidential election history. Biden is also the second Catholic to hold presidential office after John F Kennedy.

Joe Biden was born on November 20, 1942, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to a working-class family. He moved to Delaware with his parents when he was 10 years old. He attended the University of Delaware and Syracuse University Law School, where he met his first wife, Neilia Hunter. They had three children: Beau, Hunter, and Naomi. In 1972, Biden was elected to the US Senate from Delaware at the age of 29, becoming the fifth-youngest senator in US history. However, tragedy struck later that year when Neilia and Naomi were killed in a car accident. Biden was sworn in as a senator at the hospital where his sons were recovering. He married Jill Jacobs in 1977 and they had a daughter, Ashley.

Biden served in the Senate for 36 years, where he became a leader on foreign policy, criminal justice, and civil rights issues. He chaired the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He ran for president twice, in 1988 and 2008, but dropped out of both races. In 2008, he was chosen by Barack Obama as his running mate and they won the election. Biden served as vice president for eight years, working closely with Obama on domestic and international affairs. He played a key role in the passage of the Affordable Care Act, the economic stimulus package, the Iran nuclear deal, and the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.

In 2015, Biden faced another personal loss when his son Beau died of brain cancer. He decided not to run for president in 2016, but remained active in public life. In 2019, he announced his candidacy for the 2020 presidential election, promising to restore the soul of America and defeat Donald Trump.
