OVERVIEW

Ernest Hemingway described Paris as a ‘moveable feast’ – it pleases you wherever you go, even long after you have left, and Paris is indeed, a feast for the senses. It is as much for the gourmand, as for the art lover; for the architect, the historian, the glamorous vixens who want designer shops and cocktails at dawn and for the down-and-out writers steeped in Bohemia walking the Seine by night listening to the distant sound of jazz. It embraces the stylish and avant garde – evidenced by the beautiful Parisian dress and by the plethora of restaurants, bars, theatres and galleries – at the same time as being deeply traditional, never quite able to shake off the reputation for arrogance and hauteur, both of which somehow add to the charm. After all, they have a lot to be arrogant about, from the grand boulevards of the Champs-Élysées and the magnificence of the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, down to the winding back streets and Belle Epoque arcades of Saint-Germain-des-Pres. The Parisian poet Baudelaire conceived the concept of the flaneur meaning ‘a person who walks the city in order to experience it’. Take to the streets of Paris and feed your senses.
