Hollywood star Will Smith landed into a controversy at the 94th Academy Awards 2022 after he slapped Chris Rock in the middle of the event when the latter joked about Will's wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald look. A few moments later, Will Smith won the Best Actor award for his performance in the film 'King Richard'. Now, Will issued a public apology to Chris Rock on Instagram accepting that he was wrong. In his post, Will wrote, 'Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally. I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.' Will also apologised to the prestigious Academy Awards for his act and wrote, 'I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us. I am a work in progress. Sincerely, Will'. Earlier, speculations were rife that the 'Men In Black' actor might have to return his award as The Academy has a strict code of conduct policy. The Academy also reacted to the unfortunate incident and stated that they do not 'condone violence.' Taking to the official Twitter handle, The Academy tweeted, 'The Academy does not condone violence of any form. Tonight we are delighted to celebrate our 94th Academy Awards winners, who deserve this moment of recognition from their peers and movie lovers around the world.' Notably, in the middle of the event, Will Smith went up on stage at the Oscars 2022 live event and punched Chris Rock in the face after he made fun of his wife's bald look. He even screamed 'Keep my wife’s name out of your mouth.' However, Will Smith apologized for his behaviour then and there only as he said, 'I want to apologize to the Academy, I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees. This is a beautiful moment, and I’m not crying for winning an award. It’s not about winning an award for me, it’s about being able to shine a light on all the people..the entire cast and crew of King Richard.' Chris also reportedly approached the Smith family after the incident and apologised to them. For more news & updates, stay tuned to ETimes.
