IMPHAL: The district magistrates (DMs) have imposed prohibitory order under Section 144 CrPC at all examination centres, where the Class X Boards will be held from Thursday, in their respective districts, so that the tests are conducted peacefully.
L Mangi Singh, controller of examination of the Board of Secondary Education Manipur, which conducts the High School Leaving Certificate examination or matriculation examination, said 38,217 students would appear for the exams at 158 centres across the state.
He said the prohibitory orders have been clamped at the examination centres since the last few years as a preemptive measure to conduct the examination in a peaceful manner without any disturbances from surrounding areas.
Altogether 70 inspection teams, comprising four members each, would be fanned out to check unfair means adopted by students during the examination, which will end on April 3.
The Thoubal DM said it has become expedient to issue prohibitory orders for prevention of “breach of peace, disturbances to public tranquility, danger to human lives and properties and to prevent riot or affray and to ensure free and fair examination” at the centres.
The DM prohibits assembly of five and more persons and carrying of lethal weapons, including sticks, stone and firearms, within a periphery of 100 metres from the examination centres.
Extending his best wishes to the students appearing for the exam, chief minister N Biren Singh appealed them not be over anxious, but appear for the exam with a calm mind.
“As expressed by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi that students appearing for examinations should become exam ‘warriors and not worriers’,” Biren said, adding that students should face it in a more enjoyable and less stressful way.
Although the HSLC examination is crucial and important in shaping one’s career, students should never stress out but treat it like any other examination faced before and should appear with confidence, he said.
Education minister Th Basanta Kumar Singh said, “The first and foremost thing about exams is never to be scared of them. Each examination is succeeded by preparatory time, which must be utilised optimally. If you do it, you will love to take any exam. The second thing about exams is to give your 100% to studies. Don’t panic.”
