The Embassy of Italy in New Delhi, in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy Cultural Centre in New Delhi, the Cultural Institute of Italy in Mumbai, and the Consulate General of Italy in Bengaluru, presents the flagship event - India, Jazz Up! - a jazz concert showcasing the unparalleled talents of Paolo Fresu, Rita Marcotulli, and Trilok Gurtu.
For the very first time, musical personalities come together for a special trio performance that combines formal elegance with both traditional and modern elements originated in the Mediterranean area and India, intertwining the most significant roots of Jazz with the charm of world music.

The Maestros with illustrious careers, undisputed virtuosos, aim at going beyond boundaries and at exploring new trends. These extraordinary artists seek inspiration by challenging each other in a live jam session, a precious experience that will be shared with the audience.

Paolo Fresu: Inside his trumpet sound runs the sap that has illuminated the European jazz nouvelle vague, the depth of a thought that doesn’t limit itself to music, the unending passion that always leads him. The magic lies in the spontaneous way in which he managed to convey the deepest meanings of his native land with arts.

Rita Marcotulli: She is a famous Italian pianist and composer. Respected for her distinctive style of sound and ability to improvise. Her source of creativity is vast and also includes influences from Brazilian, African and Indian music.
Trilok Gurtu: Master drummer and world music pioneer, He has stood at the confluence of where Indian classical music, Western jazz and funk, African music and Brazilian music meet. The multi-instrumental and multi-cultural approach has been part of his modus operandi for five decades.
The tour commenced on February 27 with a masterclass for music students at Piano Man New Delhi, which now be followed by the much-anticipated Live Concert on February 29 at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. Subsequent performances will be held on March 2 at the NCPA in Mumbai and on March 3 at the Prestige Srihari Khoday Centre for Performing Arts in Bengaluru.
