Karavali’s signature event, the Kambala, will soon be held in Bengaluru; the first ever it will be held outside the coastal region.
The song which is aptly titled Bengaluru Kambala, Namma Kambala, has been penned by music composer V Manohar, while music director
Gurukiran — also the working president of the Bengaluru Kambala Samithi — has composed and sung it.
Musician Manikanth Kadri has arranged the music.
“Manohar and I came up with the tune and lyrics on a phone call. I just started humming and Manohar penned the lyrics. At the end of the call, we had a song,” says Gurukiran. The track captures the essence of Kambala.
“The term ‘ale budiye’ in Tulu, said when the jockey and the buffaloes begin to race, has also been incorporated, lending a classic Karavali tone to the Kannada song. Music has the ability to unite people,” Guru adds.
