NEW DELHI: In a Pakistani Border Action Team (BAT) attack on the Line of Control (LoC) in the Macchal sector in Kupwara district of North Kashmir, five Indian soldiers including a Major-ranked officer were injured. One soldier, however, succumbed to his injuries at the Srinagar military hospital on Saturday morning. A Pakistani was also killed during the exchange of fire.
According to military sources, the BAT, which is a group comprised of special forces personnel from the Pakistan Army and terrorists, attempted the attack in the Kamakari sector.

This action was thwarted by alert Indian Army troops.

"Action by Border Action Team has been foiled by alert Indian Army troops on Saturday morning in Kamakari sector," said one of the sources. "One Pakistani intruder has been killed."
The sources further stated that the group of three intruders hurled a grenade and opened fire on a forward post near the Kumkadi post in Trehgam sector of the north Kashmir district. The troops retaliated with intense gunfight that lasted for hours.
The injured personnel were evacuated to a base hospital. The condition of one of the soldiers was reported to be "critical," sources added.
Amid the gunfight, two intruders managed to return to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), according to the military sources.
The suspected infiltration and subsequent gunfight occurred a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a speech in Kargil, warned Pakistan that their “nefarious designs will never succeed” and promised a “befitting response” to any aggression.
