This red alert represents the highest level of warning, urging residents to take precautions against extreme temperatures.

Additionally, the IMD has issued an orange alert for Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, indicating slightly less severe but still dangerous heatwave conditions.

According to the latest weather report from the IMD, heatwave conditions are expected to persist over Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra in the coming days. The temperature surge has been particularly intense in certain areas, with Barmer in Rajasthan recording a scorching 48 degrees Celsius and Agra in Uttar Pradesh hitting 46.6 degrees Celsius..

Authorities have advised people in the affected areas to stay indoors during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, and avoid strenuous activities. The IMD's warnings are part of a broader effort to mitigate the health risks and other challenges posed by the severe heatwave sweeping across northern and western India.


In the neighbouring country Pakistan, 26 districts are experiencing a severe heatwave, and the condition is expected to persist until May 30. Temperatures could even reach 50°C (122°F) in two cities in Sindh province on Friday

Rajasthan: Rajasthan is facing some of the most extreme temperatures, with Barmer recording a blistering 48 degrees Celsius. The state is on high alert, with authorities urging people to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.

Punjab: Just like its neighbouring city Delhi, Chandigarh too is facing temperatures as high as 44 degrees Celsius. The state is experiencing higher-than-average temperatures, and residents are being warned to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.

Haryana: Haryana is also under a severe heatwave warning. Areas like Sirsa have recorded extremely high temperatures, adding to the overall distress.

Uttar Pradesh: Uttar Pradesh is grappling with soaring temperatures, with Agra recording 46.6 degrees Celsius.
