Agartala: Expressing concern over the alleged attacks on opposition party workers in the state, Tripura leader of opposition Jitendra Chaudhury has written to chief secretary J K Sinha. In his letter, Chaudhury alleged that CPM workers and leaders were assaulted in Boxanagar in Sepahijala district, while attending all-party meetings in preparation for the upcoming panchayat elections scheduled for next month.
“It is being observed with deep regret and serious concern that since day one of its preparation a desperate attempt is on to vitiate the amicable, peaceful, conducive and congenial atmosphere for conduct of free and fair election process, throughout the state. Couple of undesired incidents has already taken place at various places of the state,” Chaudhury said. He added that opposition parties were unable to attend all-party meetings convened by block development officers (BDOs) due to the prevailing unusual situation.
“In the Boxanagar RD block, a CPM representative was brutally attacked and physically assaulted in front of the BDO’s chamber and in presence of the local MLA, even before they could enter into BDO’s chamber, which, I do not know, how this incident shall be explained by your good administration!,” Chaudhury added. Similar incidents were reported in Salema and Durga Chowmuhoni RD Block of Dhalai district, where opposition representatives were targeted by goons.
