TIRUPATI: Congress party MP Rahul Gandhi, who emerged as the star campaigner for APCC chief YS Sharmila, recalled his family's decades long association with former Chief minister Dr YS Rajasekhar Reddy, and added that it was Dr YSR who was the inspiration behind his
Bharat Jodo yatra. YS Sharmila is contesting from her family bastion Kadapa parliament.
After paying tributes along with Sharmila at Dr YSR memorial at Idupulapaya on Saturday morning, Rahul Gandhi addressed a massive public meeting at Kadapa, where he snubbed the accusations levelled against the Congress high command, of including YSR's name in the chargesheet after his demise.
Accusing the YSRCP and the TDP of pledging Andhra Pradesh's interests to the BJP for personal gains, Rahul Gandhi ridiculed that BJP in AP stands for Babu-Jagan-Pavan. "Both the successive TDP and YSRCP govt's failed in exerting pressure on the BJP led NDA govt at the centre to fulfill the numerous promises including the special category status, completion of Polavaram, Kadapa steel plant etc, extended to AP in the state reorganization Act", Rahul Gandhi alleged.
Pointing out that while only a few could become millionaires in the Narendra Modi govt, Rahul said, the Congress party will bring revolutionary changes in the country, by providing equal opportunities for all to become millionaires. "We are committed to our promise of Rs.2 lakh loan waiver for the farmers, free education from KG to PG, construction of pucca houses for all by spending Rs.5 lakh for every house, financial assistance of Rs.8500 to every woman, creation of 2.5 lakh jobs every year", the Congress MP underlined.
Recalling that his father and former Prime minister Rajiv Gandhi and Dr YSR had brotherly affection towards each other, Rahul appealed to the voters of Kadapa to pledge support to his sister Sharmila, to relive the ideals of her father.
Meanwhile, while addressing the people later, Sharmila launched a fierce attack on her brother and chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
She accused that the YSRCP govt unleashed the land, sand and liquor mafias in the state in the last five years. "While the state has seen no progress, the ruling party leaders have amassed disproportionate wealth during the YSRCP regime", Sharmila alleged.
Pointing out to the people that his brother not only shielded the accused in the YS Vivekananda Reddy murder case for five years but also re-fielded Avinash Reddy at the Kadapa parliament again, Sharmila appealed to the voters to vote for justice and vote against the YSRCP which has pledged it's support for murder-politics.
