Low-lying areas flooded, drains overflow in silk city
Berhampur: Incessant rain for the past couple of days in Ganjam district has inundated several low-lying areas in Berhampur, while drains overflowed.
Officials said the district administration was closely monitoring the situation and has deployed two teams of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team to undertake rescue and relief works, if required.

“There was no rain-related incident reported so far,” a senior officer said.
“We are closely monitoring the situation. A civic body team is cleaning the waterlogged areas,” BeMC mayor Sanghamitra Dalei said.
Sanjib Kumar Dash Sharma, chief engineer of water resources department, Berhampur, ruled out a flood-like situation in the district. “All the rivers are flowing below the danger level,” he said.
R N Panda, chief district agriculture officer, said, “The recent downpour will help in the growth of paddy. But other crops are likely to be affected if the rain continues.”TNN
