Panaji: Cacra village on the Taleigao plateau has been facing a severe water crisis since the past five days, greatly inconveniencing residents during the ongoing
Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Villagers said that with no water supply they cannot even carry out daily activities, and that it has affected their festivities.
Sanjay Pereira, a resident, said that the water supply in Cacra has been inconsistent for several months, adding, “Our villagers have been grappling with this issue for a long period and the current five-day water shortage has only added to our difficulties.” He said that authorities are citing different reasons for the disruptions.
“It’s Ganesh Chaturthi and I appeal to chief minister
Pramod Sawant to take necessary steps and restore the supply to our village,” he said.
Another resident who wished to remain unnamed, said, “If this is the situation during monsoon, we wonder what will be the situation during the summer season.” Locals have repeatedly sought help from the PWD office in St Inez, but despite receiving assurances from officials, villagers continue to face water scarcity.
