Imphal: Security personnel on Friday arrested four cadres of two different underground outfits — one belonging to Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) and three from Kangleipak Communist Party, KCP (Noyon) — in Imphal East district.
The three KCP (Noyon) rebels have been identified as Md Imtiyaz Khan aka Angouba (21), Md Salim (30) and Thokchom Romeshchandra Singh aka Ayangba (33).
A police statement said KCP (Noyon) “active” cadres were “engaged in extorting money from various business establishments.”
In another operation, a joint security team arrested the RPF/PLA cadre, identified as Aheibam Amorjit Singh (50), during frisking at Mantripukhri Bazar, the statement said. The individual was involved in “extorting money from three-wheelers” plying along NH-2 (Imphal- Dimapur highway), the statement added.
Chief minister N Biren Singh has lauded the security team for arresting the cadres.
Taking to Facebook, Biren said the arrest of KCP (Noyon) cadres was made in connection with their involvement in extortion activities targeting various business establishments at Mantripukhi and Chingmirong areas in Imphal East and Thangal Bazar in Imphal West district. “Th Romeshchandra, the key figure, has been active since 2007, holding the rank of S/s – Sergeant. The arrested persons and seized items are now in the custody of Heingang PS for further legal proceedings,” the CM said.
