Indore: In the wake of heavy
rainfall and subsequent waterlogging in several parts of the city, Indore district administration has directed concerned departments to take immediate and long-term measures to address the issue.
“A high-level meeting was convened recently to discuss strategies to prevent waterlogging and ensure smooth functioning of the city during monsoon season.
Indore Municipal Corporation and other departments concerned have been instructed to identify all areas prone to waterlogging and traffic congestion. The officials concerned have been instructed to devise both short-term and long-term plans to address the issue,” collector Asheesh Singh said.
He said that immediate measures would focus on clearing waterlogged areas and ensuring smooth flow of traffic. “Long-term solutions will involve constructing storm water drains and improving city's drainage infrastructure. Encroachments will be removed from riverbanks and drains to facilitate smooth water flow,” he said.
The administration would also ensure that new roads and bridges were constructed with proper drainage systems to prevent waterlogging. A weekly review meeting would be conducted to monitor progress of the measures undertaken and to take corrective actions as needed, he said.
