In state, dengue count crosses 10k-mark, Jaipur logs max cases

The dengue positivity rate at SMS Hospital in Jaipur remained at 9% in October, indicating a slower spread of the virus compared to the same period last year. The state of Rajasthan has recorded over 10,000 dengue cases this year, with Jaipur reporting the highest number of cases. The health department attributes the lower number of cases to effective implementation of diagnosis, treatment, and prevention strategies. The department has also directed officials to ensure proper arrangements for treatment and carry out activities like anti-larvae measures and fogging in affected areas.

JAIPUR: The dengue positivity rate at SMS Hospital in October remained at 9% which was much less than the rate reported in the corresponding period last year.
Officials said that the less the positivity rate the slower the pace at which the virus is spreading in the area. A health department official said that at the SMS hospital, out of each 100 samples tested for dengue, only nine persons tested positive for the virus.
In the state, this year’s dengue cases crossed 10,000 mark, touching 10,252 on Friday.

Out of those, 1,730 were tested positive in Jaipur, which is highest, followed by Kota which reported 1,715 till October 27. In the past one month, the state reported 3,800 dengue cases as count of persons infected with the virus increased from 6,452 which were on September 29 reached to 10,252 in October 27. The health department claimed that the dengue cases are fewer in comparison to past year’s corresponding period due to effective implementation of strategy of diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The health department officials said that along with health department other related departments should work in similar manner with full coordination and pro-active approach to ensure control of seasonal diseases.
Health department directed officials to make proper arrangements for the treatment of patients suffering from seasonal diseases like dengue, malaria up to community health centre and primary health centre level. Every patient should have easy access to proper treatment in hospitals. Activities like anti larvae, source reduction, and fogging should be done regularly. In areas where positive cases are reported, these activities should be carried out intensively on priority basis. The health department will run a special campaign for source reduction of breeding of mosquitoes such as places with water stagnation.
