JAMSHEDPUR: The management of Jamshedpur Cooperative College on Wednesday organised an awareness workshop for the students to ensure they do not fall into the trap laid by cyber criminals.
Addressing the college fraternity, cyber police station in-charge Upendra Kumar Mandal said today’s youths prefer online shopping most of the time. They might fall into the trap laid by cyber criminals while making payments and lose money.
Even their bank accounts are hacked. One has to be careful which links to use and which ones to avoid while using the internet, he warned.
He shared a few tips with which the students can protect themselves. Often attractive offers are posted by cyber criminals through WhatsApp, emails or social media platforms. But one has to be careful before opting for these offers, he added.
He asked the victims of cyber fraud to not remain silent but report the matter to police by dialling 1930 toll free number so that the criminals can be traced and arrested. Often victims do not take police into confidence and the criminals go scot free, he rued.
Meanwhile, Kolhan University is planning to start courses on cyber security skills soon to train youths on how to deal with the cyber criminals like the infamous Jamtara gang from the state, said KU spokesperson PK Pani.
Recently, the East Singhbhum cyber police department returned 540 mobile handsets which had been stolen last year.
