JAMSHEDPUR: The traffic department organised awareness campaign for the motorists in the city.
Musabani deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Chandrashekhar Azad led a bike rally and generated awareness about the importance of following traffic rules and wearing helmets as it saves life, in the case of an
accident.
They presented the violators with a
rose and even garlanded them at some places.
The rally covered Potka, Jadugoda and Haldipokhar areas.
The sole motive of traffic personnel is that every motorist should reach his or her destination safely, rather than collecting fines. Awareness campaigns will continue in the future, police said.
Meanwhile, new check points have been set up here after a report was published in TOI earlier this week that young traffic violators add to the Steel City’s accident graph. The police personnel stopped the bikers and pillion riders without helmets. Police sources said surprise checks were being done at different parts of the city, along with routine places.
Meanwhile, two bikers in their 20s without helmets tried to flee at a Sakchi naka and rammed into a tree, seriously injuring themselves on Wednesday evening. The police team shifted the injured duo to the state-run MGMMCH. Traffic policemen were seen at arterial roads too to catch violators on Thursday morning.
