Kochi: Ernakulam rural police on Sunday seized 14kg of ganja and arrested four persons in two separate incidents. The arrested individuals are Shyam Kumar, 37, of Kalady, Lijo George Kurian, 33, of Kodanad, and Pavitra Parseth, 25, and Bijay Nayak, 27, of Kandhamal, Odisha.
The substance was seized in a joint operation by district anti-narcotic special action task force team, an SIT led by Perumbavoor ASP, and Thadiyittaparambu police.
The investigation was based on a tip-off received by district police chief Vaibhav Saxena.
According to police, the Keralites were transporting 9kg of ganja in a vehicle used to bring migrant workers from Odisha.
The accused from Odisha were caught with 5kg of ganja from Pazhanganad. According to police, they were working at a company at South Kalamassery and were involved in selling ganja brought from their hometown. tnn
