KASARAGOD: A 38-year-old man hailing from Ukrampadi near Thekkil of Kasaragod district died due to amoebic meningoencephalitis at a private hospital in Kannur on Thursday. The deceased was identified as M Manikandan, who had been working in Mumbai for the last 10 years.

He came home with a fever around 10 days ago and initially sought treatment at the general hospital in Kasaragod.

As his condition worsened, he was taken to Pariayaram govt medical college hospital and later transfered to Baby Memorial hospital where he was diagnosed.

According to district medical officer (DMO) Dr A V Ramdas, it is suspected that the man caught the disease at his workplace and hence, there is no need to worry.

However, people should keep vigil to avoid any chances of the infection spreading, the DMO added.
