BENGALURU: Police investigating the case of 29-year-old Mahalakshmi's murder have found that her body was cut into 59 pieces. The body was reconstructed during the postmortem at Bowring Hospital on Sunday.
Police also identified the suspect as one of the woman's boyfriends from Odisha. He was working in the city until he killed her. Police also found that the accused had confessed to his younger brother that he had killed Mahalakshmi.
It is believed that the suspect is changing places in West Bengal, and a team is trying to nab him.
Home minister G Parameshwara also confirmed the prime suspect is from Odisha and teams are on the job to arrest him.
Police commissioner B Dayananda told the media, "We have major clues about the suspect. We can reveal more details only after catching him."
Vyalikaval police Monday seized the refrigerator and took it to the forensic science laboratory. They suspect that the killer washed the house cleanly before escaping or chopped her body elsewhere. The trolley suitcase, found in her bedroom next to her mattress, is suspected to have been brought to stuff the body into and dispose of. He may have failed to move the body out as the area is crowded most of the time. He stuffed the body pieces into the refrigerator and escaped, a senior police officer said.
