BJP plans protests over reopening of ‘old cases’

BENGALURU: BJP’s core committee met at the party headquarters in Bengaluru on Monday to strategise for the upcoming byelections to three assembly seats — Channapatna, Shiggaon and Sandur — and the Udupi local bodies MLC seat on Oct 21. Sources in - dicate election dates for the assembly seats will be an - nounced soon.
CT Ravi, MLC said, “We had an extensive discussion regarding the byelections.

The committee acknowl - edged the challenge of these polls and the need for special efforts to secure victories.” He said BJP will consult JD(S), its NDA ally, before finalising candidates.
At the meeting chaired by BJP state president BY Vijayendra, the panel also resolved to counter the govt’s move of reopening old cases against opposi - tion functionaries. Ravi highlighted corruption al - legations against the Sid - daramaiah-led govt and the importance of launching public movements.
He criticised the govt’s policies, especially restric - tions imposed during the Ganesha festival and limi - tations on functionaries from organisations such as VHP, Hindu Jagaran Ve - dike, and Bajrang Dal. He indicated the saffron party will organise counter-pro - tests in response.
