SHAMLI: A 31-year-old man died in the Jalalabad area of Shamli district following an alleged beating on Friday night.
The police registered a case of "culpable homicide" against three brothers based on the dead man's family's complaint. However, the post-mortem report showed "no injury marks on the body".
Several people allegedly beat Mohammad Firoz after he "entered a house in an intoxicated state".
The men of the house then brutally thrashed him before handing him over to police, who then called his family to take him home. Firoz later died at home. The incident sparked tension between the two communities, leading to crowds gathering at the police station demanding action and an FIR.
This comes just 18 days after a man in Aligarh was killed by a mob on suspicion of theft on June 18. The dead man was later booked along with eight others on dacoity charges. Shamli ASP Santosh Kumar said, "When Firoz was handed over to the police, he had no injuries and was intoxicated."
He added, "The police released him to his family, who took him home. Later that night, he passed away. If he had been injured, his family would have taken him to the hospital instead of home."
However, Firoz's elder brother, Mohammad Afzal, disputed these claims, stating, "Firoz was promoting his business using a loudspeaker when he got into an argument with the other party, who then beat him, resulting in his death." The family revealed that Firoz was the father of three young children and had four other brothers.
Thanabhavan SHO Rajendra Prasad said, "A case has been registered against three brothers from Mohalla Ganga Aryanagar in Jalalabad - Pinki Kumar, Pankaj Kumar, and Rajendra Kumar - and their unknown associates under section 105 (culpable homicide) of the BNS. However, the victim's post-mortem report did not confirm any injury marks on the body. Consequently, the named accused have not been arrested yet as the police lack solid grounds for arrest." He added that they are preserving the deceased's viscera and taking steps to send it to a laboratory to confirm the cause of death.
