Nagpur: In a proactive step towards strengthening disaster management capabilities, the Central Railway’s Nagpur Division has taken a significant leap by procuring and stationing a road-mobile accident relief train (ART) at Ballarshah, a key junction in the southern region of the division.
Ballarshah witnesses high traffic from goods trains carrying coal, iron ore, and other critical materials due to multiple coal sidings, iron ore sidings, and power plants in the vicinity.
Until recently, the nearest disaster management unit was stationed at Wardha, 132 km from Ballarshah. This resulted in a 3-4 hour delay in responding to accidents in the Ballarshah area. The road-mobile ART unit has now been stationed directly at Ballarshah to close this gap.
“The mobile unit can be quickly deployed via road, significantly reducing the time required to reach accident sites compared to traditional rail-bound ART units. The mobility of the road-mobile ART ensures faster and more efficient responses to emergencies,” said Aman Mittal, senior DCM.
The initiative was taken by DRM Manish Agarwal, ADRM PS Khairkar, and SrDME Mohit Mandlekar to enhance the region’s disaster preparedness. TNN
