PATNA: Senior "pracharak" and national executive body member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (
RSS), Indresh Kumar, on Sunday said there should be "no man
lynching" and "no cow lynching" in the country to ensure people from different faiths live together in peace.
When asked about the frequent incidents of lynching of people from minority communities by cow vigilantes in different states, Indresh said, "In many parts of the country and the world, people eat meat.
But we must recognise that people are sensitive about cows. So, we should strive to create an environment in which there is no ‘cow lynching' and ‘no man lynching'. We should celebrate unity in diversity in the country."
Opposition parties generally blame the rise of the BJP, an offshoot of the RSS, for the frequent incidents of lynching by cow vigilantes.
Addressing a press conference, Indresh added that the RSS supported the views expressed by its chief
Mohan Bhagwat in favour of the caste-based census. "What Mohan (Bhagwat) ji has said is an opinion which will be followed by all volunteers of the RSS. Caste is a reality which we cannot wish away. But we must take care to keep at bay the venom of casteism," he said.
Indresh, who is also a patron of the ‘Pancham Dham Nyas,' said the Bihar chapter of the International Cultural Organisation has launched a programme from Madhepura district on Ganesh Chaturthi, which will conclude on Maha Shivaratri in 2025. "The statewide programme is aimed at creating a society that is free from riots and caste-based discrimination and is characterised by compassion for the poor. The programme was launched at Singheswar Mahadev Sthan in Madhepura district and will cover 108 Shiv temples across the state," he said.
"In the final phase, a grand fortnight-long ‘Pancham Dham Maha Mrityunjay Yagna' will be held in Patna, commencing on February 12, coinciding with Sant Ravidas's birth anniversary and concluding on February 26 when Maha Shivaratri will be celebrated next year," the RSS functionary added.
