PUDUCHERRY: Mu Elangovan, writer and assistant professor in Tamil at Kanchi Mamunivar Government Institute for Postgraduate Studies and Research in
Puducherry, has received the Tamil Wiki-Thooran Award 2023 instituted by the Vishnupuram Ilakkiya Vattam.
Vishnupuram Ilakkiya Vattam is a literary organization founded by Tamil writer B Jeyamohan, his readers and fans.
It is named after Jeyamohan’s noted work Vishnupuram.
The award committee comprising Jeyamohan, environmentalist and writer Theodore Baskaran and Malayalam literary critic P K Rajasekaran selected Elangovan for the award recognizing his contributions in the fields of Tamil literature, documentary films, digital content and internet, library and folklore.
The committee members presented the award to him at a ceremony in Erode on Sunday. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh, a memento, and a certificate.
The participants at the event deliberated on the works of Elangovan. The trailers of two documentaries made by Elangovan were screened during the ceremony.
The committee also presented a special award to Tamil writer and translator S J Sivasankar of Kanyakumari.
