In the order it is instructed to keep shops closed selling chicken, mutton and fish. It is also ordered to keep slaughterhouses closed. While retail sale of liquor has also been prohibited.
“It being a Monday there will not be much movement in Daman. Most of the Surtis return on Sunday evening,” said Alpesh Chauhan, a frequent visitor to Daman.
In the city, Jinagna Seva Trust (JST) and AAP leader Dinesh Kachhadia have demanded prohibitory orders against slaughterhouses in the city. They have approached government offices in the city seeking orders.
“It is a good decision by the Daman administration. When we are celebrating Shree Ram Temple consecration the animals too have the right to celebrate. We expect that the animals get at least a day more to live,” said Piyush Shah, trustee JST.
In his appeal, Kachhadiya demanded that even the eateries selling eggs should also remain closed as the day is being celebrated like a festival.
