Surat: The first floor of a dilapidated house collapsed on Zampa Bazaar main road on Tuesday evening. No one suffered injuries as it was empty. The residents had been living elsewhere for the past few years. Since it was an old structure, civic officials suspect it got weaker due to rain.
The owner of the house was served notice in the recent past to demolish it considering the weak structure.
However, before the house could be demolished it collapsed. SMC officials said that no structures adjoining the building suffered damage.
“The wooden blocks in the structure might have got damaged due to water entering the structure,” said an SMC official.
The team of Surat Fire and Emergency Services (SFES) visited the spot to check if any person got trapped in the debris.
