Vadodara: While out on patrolling duty on Wednesday night, the local crime branch (LCB) of Anand police saw a truck near an eatery on the highway near Petlad. Upon closer inspection, they seized liquor worth Rs 13.06 lakh which was brought to the state from Daman.
LCB sleuths received a tip off that the truck was parked near a highway eatery near Pandoli village.
Spotting it, a raid was planned on the spot.
When the cops questioned the driver, Ashok Nimbalkar from Jadhavwadi in Satara district in Maharashtra, told that the truck was carrying medicines. He even furnished documents regarding the stock.
LCB personnel checked the truck and found that boxes of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) were kept in the carriage. On being grilled after detention, Nimbalkar told the police that one Shivaji Kharge form Panvel had asked him to go to Daman with the truck and hand it over to an unidentified man whose phone number was given to the driver. The unidentified man took the truck from Nimbalkar, loaded it in Daman and handed it over to Nimbalkar again. He told Nimbalkar to carry the stock to Junagadh.
