VIJAYAWADA: Municipal administration minister P Narayana has said that they have set their focus on maintaining the sanitation in the flood hit areas in the city. He said that they have estimated that at least 10000 workers were needed to take up the cleaning activity in the colonies which were marooned in the floods and adviced all the district collectors and municipal commissioners to depute additional staff to Vijayawada.
Narayana reviewed the sanitation situation with the senior officials here on Tuesday.
Speaking to the media, Narayana said that they have rescued about 8.5 lakh people from the flood-hit colonies and made all arrangements for providing food and shelter. He said that they have distributed about 9 lakh food packets for breakfast and another 9 lakh packets for lunch in the inundated colonies. He said that they have also distributed about 5 lakh water bottles to the flood victims.
“We have appointed special officers exclusively to take up cleaning activity. One special officer will be deployed at ward secretariat,” said Narayana. He said that they have brought all the 123 municipal commissioners in the state to the city to supervise sanitation activity. He said that fire-services department would also be involved to clean the colonies to remove the mud soon after the flood water receded. He said that they would immediately take up fogging and bleaching in the colonies to prevent the spread of diseases. Minister said that they have constituted special medical teams to extend assistance to the flood victims. He said that drugs would also be distributed free of cost. Special chief secretaries Anil Kumar Singhal, MT Krishnababu, Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni), secretary to CM PS Pradyumna and other senior officials were present.
