Vijayawada: The Lingala bridge, a vital connection between Jaggayyapeta and Khammam, was partially damage after flood waters in Munneru stream dislodged two concrete slabs of the bridge.
The flood water in the stream has damaged several roads and other infrastructure in the NTR district over the past few days. On Tuesday, two concrete slabs of the kilometer-long Lingala Bridge were dislodged and the bridge developed cracks in multiple places due to the intense water current.
According to M Janaki Ram, Inspector, Jaggayyapeta, the bridge was closed for traffic since Sunday citing heavy floods, and this ensured that no one was injured when the bridge suffered damage.
Distrcit authorities are making arrangements to repair the bridge, he added.
Furthermore, the Thotaravulapadu-Chintalapadu road has also been damaged by the Munneru flood. The road, which links several villages in the area, has been entirely swept away, rendering it impassable for vehicles. This has effectively isolated these villages from one another. Local authorities have acknowledged the situation and are evaluating the extent of damage. They have reassured the public that repair works will commence as soon as the floodwater subsides and the affected areas are considered safe for reconstruction.
